A Brief History of the Valle de Guadalupe.
The history of Valle de Guadalupe as we know it today dates back to 1834 when the first Spanish monks arrived in the area and built the “Misión de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe del Norte” which was the last mission of the region. However, these early settlers were forced to abandon the area due to numerous attacks from the local indigenous people.
In the early-1900 a group of people from South Russia moved to this region and established a settlement near Ensenada. These people leased over 50 square miles of land to cultivate wheat and used the harvest to repay their loans. Afterward, they acquired a large portion of land to start cultivating red wine grapes.
Today Valle de Guadalupe has become one of the main tourist destinations in northwestern Mexico due to its extensive lands where red wine grape is sown and harvested.

How did Guadalupe Valley become the first wine producer in all of Mexico?
Eventually, in the mid-1900s the main economic activity shifted towards wine production in Guadalupe Valley. As a result, it became the primary wine manufacturer in the entire country.
A museum was constructed by the State government to preserve the legacy of these former settlers from Old Russia and to enrich the growing wine tourism industry.
